One of the earliest classification of numbers into groups was on the basis of their divisibility by the number two.
Numbers exactly divisible by two are called even and those that leave a remainder of one when divided by two are called odd.
All numbers belong in one of these two groups.

The first idea of number starts with the recognition that there is a difference between one and more than one.
One generates all the other numbers by successive additions of itself. One defines all the other numbers.
